The maternal and newborn healthcare package

The National Office on Family and Population (ONFP), in partnership with the Directorate of Primary Health Care (DSSB) and with the support of UNFPA Tunisia, organized a workshop on June 17 on the testing and extension of the implementation of the essential maternal and newborn health care package.

The workshop saw the participation of the pilot regions: Nabeul and Kébili, who presented their experiences of integrating the package, the lessons learned and the barriers, especially contextual, that hindered the optimal integration of the care package. In fact, the initiation of the integration in these two regions coincided with the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, which generated a state of emergency with reallocation of resources and changes in the context and operations on the field.

The two pilot regions shared, during the afternoon, these experiences with the other regions where the extension is planned: Médenine, Béjà , Mahdia and Mannouba .

This workshop is a commitment to resume the process of integration and extension of the package of essential care on Maternal and newborn health, while taking into consideration the human and material capacities and the barriers, persistent or emerging.
