Workshop Impact of incest from childhood to adulthood

The United Nations Population Fund in Tunisia continues support the combat against all forms of gender-based violence.

In the marging of the International Women's Day Rights, held every year on March 8th, UNFPA Tunisia and the National Observatory of combatting violence against women organized a workshop in Tunis about incest and its impact from childhood to adulthood.

This workshop was launched after the publication of a testimony book related to incest. The conference allowed to discuss with professionals: psychiatrists, child psychiatrist, forensic doctors etc..) the impact of incest on the victims during childhood and during adult life and its symptoms.

Professionals also presented the type of care to be provided to them as well as how to prevent incest with a priority focusing on sensitization of children. Indeed, children should be aware that their bodies belong to them, that they have the right to refuse certain acts from adults in addition to report these acts when necessary. This workshop will lead to the development of an exploratory study related to incest in pilot areas of Tunisia.
